Are you still using a free blogspot or wordpress account? WHY?
Sorry for the capital letters but really, WHY?
If you’ve noticed, this site is a dotcom. My URL looks loads more fun if it doesnt’ have a .blogspot.com or a .wordpress.com don’t you think so? Here’s the kicker question, how much does running this teeny outfit costs me? $10/year. That’s less than a dollar a month.
I know what you have in mind, how about fees for hosting and all that? I know if you’re interested you’re probably not one of those techy stuff guys who’ll probably frown at this very elementary idea. Well, this blog is hosted in blogger, which means this is hosted for free. All I had to do is purchase the domain. To make this even more simpler, I purchased this right out of blogger which means no more tweaking necessary if that’s what you’re afraid of.
Here’s how you do it.
1. Go to your Blogger Dashboard. If you’re clueless what this is, this is the page you’re taken to when you log in to Blogger.
2. Click on Settings tab
3. Click on Publishing tab
4. You will see there Advanced Settings, and just to the right, there’s a link there saying Need a Domain? Buy One Now.
5. Click on that link and then it will ask you what address would you like your blog to have. Just put in what you like and check for availability.
6. Once you get an available address, just follow further instructions, which are very easy to follow by the way, and you’ll have your own domain name hosted in blogger. All for $10.
There are many reasons why you should ditch your .whatever.com and get your own address. For one, it gives you more respectability. Heck I’m feeling very respectable right now. Also, some opportunities, if you’re thinking about going the pay per post route, are reserved for blogs that don’t have those long addendums to your blog name. It’s also branding. And generally, it makes you feel good about yourself.
So take the plunge now. You may be just blogging for fun but really, having your own domain name is fun-ner.
It’s probably one of the best $10 you’ll ever spend.
Up to now, I’m only talking about Blogger, so if you’re a bit techy and would like to host your blog somewhere else like Wordpress for example, you can just get your domain here.
And then get your hosting here:
