Giving Up On Adbrite, Slamdunk on Chitika

by Merc on August 26, 2009

It seems like I’m in the ‘giving up’ phase of my blogging activities these days. First it’s about the SEO tools that are available to the Mac, and now Adbrite.

Folks say that a quitter never wins, and a winner never quits, but a mercenary blogger like me should also recognize when a game is hopeless and cut his losses. My returns with Adbrite is simply atrocious. It’s simply eating up space and not paying rent at all!

I’m sure some bloggers have found success with this one but for me, in the months that I’ve been running it in my blogs, they’ve been a complete and utter failure. So now I’m looking at other things to replace Adbrite with. I don’t have any clear thing to replace it with but Adgitize seems to be a really good alternative. I’ll have to look closely at it.

But I haven’t been a complete failure though. Some of the things I’ve tested are raging successes.

Chitika, for example, is a full-blown success.

I’m amazed at the clickthrough rates I’m getting. Can you imagine clickthrough rates of 2-7%? That’s frigging awesome! Thanks of course to their Mega-unit. This one I couldn’t praise enough. Just for the past seven days, my lowest clickthrough rate is 2.41% with 6.90% CTR being the highest! Awesome, I’m telling you.  You simply have to try it!

My travel blog also had it’s first successful direct ad placement. I’m not gonna tell you the exact monthly amount I’m charging (it’s not much) but that is something that I’ve been dreaming about for so long.

Adsense has been chugging along real fine these days as well. At least I’m no longer earning cents day in and day out.

But Adbrite? Bah, that one’s gotta go.

  • Thanks for the tips. I am checking out Chitika

    Good luck mate!

Yeah, I had about the same luck with adbrite as you did. I have found by testing all the contextual advertising networks that kontera is the best for blogs that don't get insane amounts of traffic (others may be better for high volume). Definitely try it out. If you want send me an email at nuklear * gmail *com and I'll send you an invite (it would help me out =) )

yo quake! when I do decide to try out kontera, i'll be sure to send you a note. no worries.
  • quakefiend
    cool, thanks.
  • I replace my adbrite ads with bidvertiser. I got my first payment two month ago from bidvertiser. I'll try chitika for my other blog
  • mercblogger
Good for you aria! I'll have to see how some of my blogs that are using bidvertiser performs.
  • I gave up any contextual ads on my post (adsense, bidvertiser, etc) for my blog for bloggers. Currently, I'm just running CPM ads. As I've mentioned the reasons why it's not working (you can check my post), it simply is not working for my kind of blog.
  • the new Chitika Units are doing good. It's my first day of testing it and I think it has very good potential.
